Vizhinjam Port Set for Road Cargo Operations Amid State Land Acquisition Delays

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vizhinjam International Seaport is officially equipped and ready to commence the movement of containers by road. Pending final clearances from the state government, Export-Import (EXIM) cargo operations are slated to begin as early as the first week of June. However, despite the massive potential for industrial growth and large-scale employment opportunities tied to the project, the state government has drawn criticism for failing to acquire even a single acre of land on its own initiative to support the surrounding ecosystem. Key Highlights: Operational Readiness: Road-based container transit is ready to launch. Timeline: EXIM cargo operations could begin by the first week of June, subject to government approval. The Bottleneck: Industrial expansion and job creation remain stalled due to zero progress in state-led land acquisition.
